Cathal & India The Two Eejits Abroad

Our Story

We met in the beautiful country of Australia, however, in a not so beautiful place for us at the time - farm work in Bundaberg. And no, it wasn’t a glorious time in the sunshine picking small fruits such as sweet strawberries and tiny berries but in fact, more like hauling very dirty and abnormally large sweet potatoes out of the ground - bare handed. All while dealing with a couple of hot headed farmers. If anyone else reading this has completed farm work, then you're probably nodding your head in agreement right now.

So Cathal - definitely the organised one in this relationship - wasted no time and dove headfirst into farm work pretty much as soon as he touched Australian soil. India, on the other hand, decided to leave it all until the very last minute with just 4 months left on her visa. You'll soon get to notice that Cathal pretty much takes over anything to do with future plans!

This was all over the time period of the Covid outbreak in 2020. Although we weren’t in the same hostel and weren’t actually able to see each other, we stayed in contact. Then, once we had both finished our farm work, Cathal asked India if she would like to continue to travel together. So 2 weeks later, we set off by train from Bundaberg to Brisbane and that’s where the real stories begin.....

Cathal

Hey there,I'm Cathal, from Co.Clare in Ireland. I'm 30 years old and I'm all about embracing life, exploring new horizons, and sharing my journey! I proudly served my country as a member of the Irish Defence Force for 5 1/2 years. During my time overseas in countries like Israel and Syria, I realised my passion for fitness and decided to chase my dreams. So, I went back to college and studied sports, becoming a certified personal trainer and a fierce advocate for strength and conditioning. Fast forward to today, where I've built my own online personal training business called TorpeysFitness. My goal is to empower individuals from around the world to embrace their full potential and lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. It's all about finding that perfect balance between fitness, adventure, and self-discovery.

Travel has been my passion for over 6 year now. My heart felt at home in Asia, where I soaked up the rich cultures and embraced the awe-inspiring beauty of every corner for 2 years. Then for 3 years, Australia became my home, offering endless sun-soaked beaches, breathtaking landscapes, and unforgettable moments. After that, I found myself captivated by the mountains in New Zealand where I stayed for just over a year. Then I went travelling South and Central America together witn India. At the moment my life has sent me back to Australia. But I'm nowhere near finished my travels yet!

Now, my ultimate goal in life is to set foot in all 221 Lonely Planet countries that make up this incredible world.  So far, I've marked 56 countries off my list, and I couldn't be more excited about the next chapter of my journey. Together with my incredible travel buddy, we'll take on the world, one breathtaking destination at a time.

India

I'm India, a 30-year-old gal from the not-so-sunny town of Stoke-on-Trent in England. Now, if you're familiar with Stoke-on-Trent, you'll understand why I'm on a mission to experience more and soak up as much sunshine as possible! It's not something we get a lot back in Stoke!

My travels began way back in Manchester, where I did a degree in International Business and French. While there, I also had a taste of the working holiday life working with an airline in Majorca and the next year in Portugal during the summers. This definitely spurred on my love of travel!

During my degree, I spent a year in France where I taught English. It ended up that I was placed at an almost all-boys college, with many of them actually being older than me. Imagine being surrounded by a bunch of older, non English speaking lads, day in and day out. Terrifying? Absolutely. But boy, did it help me come out of my shell!

After finishing my degree and entering the stage of 'oh my god what do I now do with my life?!' I found myself moving to Thailand, where I ended up staying for 2 years as a teacher. And that's where the real adventures began!

After all of that, I couldn't bear the thought of returning to England. So I made my way down under, to the land of kangaroos and Vegemite. Australia is where I met Cathal and it soon became our home for a glorious 3 years, filled with sea, sand, and some truly unforgettable memories! After that we lived in New Zealand for 13 months. It was like living in a postcard, surrounded by majestic mountains and thrilling outdoor adventures!

Since then, We have travelled parts of South and Central America for 7 months, before ending in Mexico, where I am now staying for the next few months where I'm currently working as an Online English Teacher.
